THE LARGE BREED POODLE

 The large breed poodle is also called royal poodle. It is the largest and oldest one of the breed.

In 1792 the poodle was already bred in two separate classes.

 The classification of the poodles isn’t internationally equal.

The Germans officially distinguish between 4 classes in size: Large-, Small-, “Dwarf”- and Toy Poodle.

 In Great Britain they only know 3 classes in size: Standard Poodle (more than 38cm), Miniature Poodle (28 to 38 cm) and Toy Poodle (up to 28cm)

The large breed poodle is an elegant companion. Because of its intelligent, lively and charming character it is a very popular dog among the large ones.

Large breed poodles are available in the colours: white, apricot, brown, black, blue, silver and “harlekin”.

Large breed  poodles move easily and elegantly with grace because they have got muscular extremities and a harmonic body.

The proud way to walk expresses a well-balanced constitution, a playful nature and a  joy of living.

Withers height: 45 to 61

There are no different sizes for male or female dogs ordered!

Poodles were brought into discredit because of their unsuitable hair-style. But the dogs were innocent. People had the crazy ideas! It is difficult to find out if the dogs are happy with their hair-style or with the clothes and the ribbons  The truth is that these kind of dogs are very intelligent, elegant, proud and faithful!

Poodles were used and are sometimes still used as working dogs, but also as hunting dogs and very often you can find them at the circus in a special show.

In former times they pulled the wagons of jugglers, illusionists and clowns or they were used for hunting. Today they work as blind-man’s dogs, therapy dogs or rescue dogs.

Sometimes you can find a poodle working for a hunter still nowadays. They have an excellent nose but their fur isn’t suitable for this kind of job. The breeders were clever and bred a new poodle, the “poodlepointer”.(a mixture between a poodle and a pointer) This dog had the fine nose from the poodle and the short fur from the pointer.

Poodles like doing tracking work. They have very much fun finding a track.

Poodles are good at sports and therefore you can do agility with them, poodle races or play frisbee. But they are also clever enough for obedience!
